Handwara, Dec 20: The Handwara Media Association elections witnessed an epic battle between the candidates contesting for the President post, which however culminated with both of them securing equal number of votes, here on Wednesday.
The elections for the Association were held at TRC Kargama under the supervision of Farooq Bhat, Sagar Gulzar, Raja Akbar and Aijaz Manzar – who acted as election observers to ensure a free and fair process.
In an interesting turn of events, Syed Kabir Geelani (ANN), Tarique Raheem (Greater Kashmir) contesting for President Post saw their fortunes fluctuating, while the fulcrum finally settling with both of them securing fourteen votes each – out of a total of 28 votes.
It was unanimously decided by the election body to let the candidates head the Association for a term of six months each – with Syed Kabir Geelani getting the post for the first six months.
Notably, the Association was previously headed by Aatif Qayoom from Rising Kashmir.

The initiative, aimed at removing the dry patch hindering the river’s waterway, was initiated by authorities due to its potential to trigger floods in numerous villages in Bandipora and Ganderbal, However, the project has been temporarily halted in response to complaints.
